Hurricane Helene Recovery: A Message of Strength and Unity

Published October 8th, 2024

Dear Sea Club V Family,

As you are all aware, Hurricane Helene recently brought significant flooding to our beloved property, impacting every one of our Owner Units to some degree. Our ground-level units experienced 18 to 30 inches of water, including our office spaces. This event affected much more than just the units themselves—it also took a toll on the essential equipment that keeps Sea Club V running smoothly: the AC condensers, boilers, spa, pool equipment, and laundry facilities.

Despite the magnitude of the challenge we’re facing, I want to take a moment to shine a light on the extraordinary efforts of our management team and staff. The very next day after the storm, they sprang into action with determination and heart. Within just a few short days, we had a Remediation Company on-site, assessing the damage, documenting each unit, and beginning the process of clearing, drying, and preparing the space for mold treatment. This proactive approach has allowed us to take swift steps toward recovery.

On Thursday, alongside my fellow board members, Jim Van Der Woude and Jim Darling, I joined Tony, El, and our staff to begin laying the groundwork for restoring what we all cherish—our "Home Away from Home." We met with insurance agents, adjusters, contractors, and our resilient staff, aligning on a comprehensive plan to bring Sea Club V back to life. Many of you are undoubtedly wondering about the timeline, and I want to assure you that we are working closely with our contractors to establish a clear schedule and will share updates as soon as possible.

Preparing for Hurricane Milton

Even as we face the aftermath of Helene, I find myself almost speechless at the arrival of another storm—Hurricane Milton. The days ahead will test us, but we will not falter. Please rest assured that we are actively preparing for this storm, with Tony in direct contact with me every step of the way. As of today, Sea Club V is secured to the best of our ability. The utilities have been shut off, the property is vacated, and we stand ready. In the coming days, I will provide updates and share photos as new information becomes available. Together, we are holding onto hope for a positive outcome.

A Tribute to Our Incredible Team

I cannot express enough how proud I am of the Sea Club V team. This past week, I have had the privilege of working alongside our staff, witnessing their passion and dedication firsthand. It’s clear to me that every single one of them is deeply committed to this place we all love. They didn’t hesitate to step outside of their regular roles, tackling whatever was needed without a second thought. In fact, when our maintenance team couldn’t drive onto the island, they walked—determined to do their part.

Tony, El, and the entire staff have been working tirelessly, day in and day out. I’ve received emails from Tony at 5:00 AM and phone calls at 10:00 PM, as they navigate not only the aftermath of Helene but also the preparations for Hurricane Milton. I have seen the concern in their eyes, but also their strength. They are the heartbeat of Sea Club V, and we are truly fortunate to have them on our side.

Thank You, Sea Club V Family

To Tony, El, and all of the incredible staff: You are the foundation of this community, and your unwavering dedication inspires us all. We will get through this together, stronger than ever. You are truly the best, and for that, we are eternally grateful.

To our Sea Club V family—thank you for your patience, support, and resilience during this challenging time. Together, we will rise above these storms and come out the other side with renewed strength.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Benty
